Locally Made White Plates (250cc and under)
Information on small cc motorcycles in Taiwan (250cc and under that you can ride legally in TW). It can be extremely hard to find specifications on locally made bikes in Taiwan. Here is a list of specs, Facebook group links, Youtube link and a picture. I will not include many imported motorcycles. You can easily find info on them yourself.
Before I get into most of the different models, I want to remind everyone that all the motorcycles in Taiwan are locally made from 1980-2003 and will all have their pros and cons. Many imports have made their way here since 2003 after Taiwan joined the WTO, so many of the local companies are focusing more on scooters and not motorcycles. Some people might have had great experiences with a certain bike, while other people have had major problems. All these motorcycles have their own problems, advantages, and disadvantages. Obviously, some are going to be more reliable, faster and stronger than other motorcycles, but if you keep up with oil changes and proper care you can make these locally made bikes run for ages. Many of the newer Taiwanese made motorcycles don't have the best quality control compared to the older made bikes. Some of the first generation fuel injection models (2010-11) have bad Fi systems and ECUs. The problem with some of the older made bikes are parts are external parts (not engine parts) like fairings, gas tanks and gauges are becoming harder to find. Of course parts can still be sourced, but not as easily.
Most of the locally made motorcycles in Taiwan started going changing to fuel injection around 2010. Many of the locally made fuel injection systems have had their problems, especially the first or even second generations. So, many of the newer locally made bikes have been known to have fuel injection and ECU issues.
Taiwan has a few choices for 2-stroke motorcycles like the Honda (Kymco) NSR 150, Yamaha RZR 135, Kawasaki B1 125 and the Suzuki BS 125. Two strokes are a dying breed here in TW. They might be banned in Taipei in the future and if that is the case, other cities will soon follow. Parts and mechanics are becoming hard to find for these 2-strokes too. Even though I am a 2-stroke lover, I suggest staying away from them unless you really know your way around them and have the ability to fix and find your own parts for them.
Here are most of the Taiwanese made motorcycles from the early 1990’s to present day. There are a few motorcycles that weren’t made in TW that are sold here as well. I will include just a few of those bikes too. I have included most of these motorcycles with their specifications and some pros and cons in alphabetic order by manufacturer. Taiwan is a weird country for motorcycles. There are definitely a few bikes I have missed that were legally imported, but they are so rare they aren’t worth mentioning. If there really is a motorcycle I missed, feel free to contact me.
*All the info I gathered was through the Internet. Some motorcycles had small discrepancies between English and Taiwanese websites. Some numbers could possibly be a bit off. You can always do your own research. There are many motorcycles here that I don’t know much about, so I couldn’t give pros and cons on every motorcycle.
